Playing ball on historical turf. ⚾⚾⚾ Today, the Fultondale Wildcats and Shades Valley Mounties faced off at Rickwood Field -- where baseball legends once played, including Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, and Hank Aaron. For the Mounties, this is Year 4 of the Rickwood Classic, but for Coach Darryl Dunbar of Shades Valley High School, it’s a homecoming. Before leading the next generation, he played ball at Rickwood during his high school days.

On this first day of Spring, we’re continuing to celebrate our #JEFCOEDStrong employees! 🌸☀️ We want to give a huge congratulations to our third nine weeks winner, Teresa Smith! 🎉💫
The third nine weeks theme is “Springing Into Action!” — recognizing strong initiatives and fresh perspectives across the District. Teresa embodies this perfectly! As a Federal Programs Staff Accountant, Teresa is dedicated, knowledgeable, professional, and ready to jump into action. But her colleagues say what truly sets her apart is her grace!

For the past two mornings, many of our incredible students with different abilities visited the Pelham Civic Center to watch the Birmingham Bulls Hockey team practice up close. But the best part? When practice wrapped up, our students stepped onto the ice, coming face to face with the players! Many students proudly shared handmade signs with the players, creating unforgettable moments!
A heartfelt thank you to the Birmingham Bulls for making our students feel like absolute VIPs! And none of this happens without the hard work of our nurses, teachers, parents, bus drivers, and volunteers! We are so grateful. 🏒❤️ #GoBulls

Leading with purpose!💜 Last month our incredible Hueytown High School cosmetology and barbering students made a meaningful visit to the Lovelady Center! They created hundreds of Valentine’s Day cards and delivered personal hygiene products to the women at the center. Actions like these are so impactful, and we applaud these students for wanting to help others!

What a wonderful Read Across America Week! All week long, our schools were filled with phenomenal guest readers, amazing activities, and too many creative costumes to count, all to grow our students’ love of reading!📚💙
Seeing our students hang on to every word, ask thoughtful questions, and express endless excitement during this week’s storytimes brought us so much joy. Thank you to each guest reader, educator, and administrator who made this week possible!
