English as a Second Language educators from across our state are equipped and energized for the school year following this year’s ESL Summer Summit at McAdory Middle School! 👏

More than 100 teachers met for powerful sessions ranging from how to empower students, engage with their families, and collaborate with fellow educators. We are proud of this group of leaders and can’t wait to see the difference they’ll make this school year!

🚨 FCCLA update🚨 After a scoring miscalculation, it was brought to our attention that Ellison got a GOLD medal 🥇 at Nationals!!!! Way to go Ellison!!!

Welcome Michael Franklin. Coach Franklin will be teaching 6th grade science. He has his BS, MS, and EdS from UAB in education. Throughout his career he has taught advanced physics, human anatomy and physiology, environmental science, and middle school science remediation. He has coached baseball and football all at the Varsity level within Jefcoed for 19 years total between Clay- Chalkville HS and Fultondale HS. In those years he has served as a head coach, assistant coach, head athletic director, and a strength and conditioning coach. He is a National Board certified athletic administrator (CAA) through the NIAAA, a certified USA weightlifting coach and strength and Conditioning specialist. He also serves as an adjunct instructor in the UAB School of Education teaching various courses for future educators.

This week, JEFCOED educators, administrators, and district leaders gathered at Fultondale High School for the 2026 PowerEDUp! Tech Conference. Attendees spent the day learning from experts and discovering innovative ways to use technology in their classrooms!

Congratulations to Wendy Patterson, our fourth nine weeks Strong Award Home Stretch Winner. She received multiple nominations and is a blessing to our school. Mrs. Patterson's accomplishment's over a two year period are purely inspirational. Not only has she defeated cancer, she decided teaching would bring her purpose as a second career. A wife and mother of 4, she returned back to school and graduated from Montevallo in December of 2025. All the while, she is now approaching the end of her second year of teaching. Additionally, she has lead groups of business leaders that have not only competed at the state level, but have also been competitive at the national level. She inspires her students by approaching business instruction from real-world applications. Some of her students finished in the top 10% in the Stock Market Game and she uses her business leadership group to pour into the community through community service projects, such as a Mardi Gras parade for a local nursing home and a food drive. Mrs. Patterson has brought inspiration to those around her. Wendy is extremely positive and optimistic when it comes to education. I've never seen a teacher promote so many field trips with genuine enthusiasm and we are a better school for it.
