Congratulations to 4th grader Jack Roberts! His poem, What Makes Alabama Great, was one of the winners of the Father Goose Poetry contest (and the only winner chosen from MOE!).

His poem will be on display at a special reception at the State Capitol on April 7th and he will also be honored on May 16th at a special event at Homewood Library.

Congratulations to our Science Olympaid team for their successes at the state competition at Auburn.  Special Congratulations to Avett and Zach for winning first place in Starry, Starry Night. Also to Holland and Jack for 4th in Science Categories .

All others received a ribbon for placing 5th-8th in their respective events.

We’re wishing Gardendale High School students Brooklyn Cheek and Harmony Shepherd the best of luck as they compete in Miss Alabama’s Teen this weekend!👑👏

Brooklyn and Harmony are both 9th graders at Gardendale High School, where they're on the Rockettes Dance Team.💃🏻✨ And, fun fact: Brooklyn’s Rising Stars, Aubree Cheek and Hadleigh Anderson, are also members of the JEFCOED family! Aubree attends Bragg Middle School and Hadleigh is a student at Mount Olive Elementary School!

You can cheer on these amazing students this weekend at Thompson High School. Preliminary competitions are Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the finals are set for 2 p.m. Sunday!

This past weekend was a whirlwind of energy, curiosity, and scientific discovery! Science Olympiad had a great time competing at the county tournament at Pinson Elementary this past weekend. A huge thank you for Candace Allen for supporting our students while Mrs. Hendrix was out!

Gavin Cruse Repeats as District Spelling Bee Champion
Gavin Cruse won the District Wide Spelling Bee Competition in 2025. He enjoyed it so much last year that he decided he would do it again in 2026. Congratulations to Gavin! He is now the back to back Jefferson County School District Spelling Bee Champion. He moves on now to compete against all the other winners from the other school districts within Jefferson County.
