Dr. Nixon dedicated an incredible 27 years to education, 16 of which were spent at JEFCOED. As an educator and administrator, Dr. Nixon led with passion and a kind heart, helping promote the success of students and employees alike.
Dr. Nixon, we will miss you dearly, but we wish you the best in this next chapter! Thank you for all you have done to help our district and Minor Community School flourish! Enjoy your retirement!

🎃Life is gourd at JEFCOED!🎃
From trips to the pumpkin patch, to decorating pumpkins and even dissecting them, students across our district are getting into the fall spirit!
🔎At Gardendale Elementary School, Pre-K students analyzed the inside of pumpkins and learned how they grow!
📚At Concord Elementary School, storybook pumpkins line the bookshelves! We love seeing students’ creativity and passion for reading on display!
🚜And Brookville Elementary students had a whole lot of fun at 4D Farm! They explored the pumpkin patch, visited the corn barn, and enjoyed fun rides!















































Mrs. Riley’s students put their green thumbs to work by planting a beautiful fall garden filled with broccoli, carrots, cabbage and other veggies! We can’t wait to see how their garden flourishes throughout the season!🥕👏

Students showcased their creativity by crafting Peruvian pan flutes and vibrant Mexican mirrors, decorating pumpkins in the style of Pablo Picasso, and even learning how to salsa dance. After finishing their projects, they headed to the court to enjoy an exciting game of soccer!⚽️

Throughout this week, nearly 500 ExEd students and their peer helpers embarked on canoe adventures, navigating the beautiful, serene waters of Oak Mountain State Park.
Whether students were gliding across the lake, playing with friends, or enjoying a cookout, they were making precious memories as part of a cherished tradition for our district. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!💙



These students took the leap, completed their Match applications, and have already received college admission offers! We’re so proud of their hard work and excited to see where their journey takes them next.






Kennedy Center-trained teaching artists visited each grade level, sharing a variety of theatre techniques with our scholars! In these photos, students are creating tableaus—still, silent scenes that tell a story.
These engaging lessons allowed students to use their imaginations and explore the many different ways we can deliver a message.

This week, 5th graders at Irondale Community School practiced these skills during Kitchen Safety Day. The Irondale Fire Department taught students life-saving information, including how to properly use a fire extinguisher. We appreciate these firefighters for showing students how to react calmly and safely in the event of an emergency!
