We are so proud of our Kelsey and her earning 2nd place in the Jefferson County Schools Spelling Bee. Jefferson County Schools posted the following message about the spelling bee: Several superstar spellers have so much to be proud of!👏 Please join us in congratulating our JEFCOED District Spelling Bee winner, Gavin Cruse, from Mount Olive Elementary School!🎉🥇 This is Gavin’s second consecutive year taking home first place, and with this win, he advances to the county-wide spelling bee next month! We also want to recognize our finalists🥈Kelsey Causey, Pleasant Grove Elementary 🥉David Simpson, Hueytown Intermediate We are incredibly proud of our winners and participants for how they performed in the district-wide spelling bee! PGES Family,
Thanks for reading your messages from the school board yesterday and today.
The PGES information below clarifies a few PGES details.
* Due to the weather, all JEFCOED Schools will open 2 hours later than usual on 01/27/26.
* All Jefcoed buses will pick up 2 hours later than usual.
* The car line starts at 9:15, classes begin at 9:45, and the car line ends at 9:55.
* All PGES PRE-K students should arrive at 9:45.
* No tutoring tomorrow. Tutoring will resume on Thursday.
* All car riders must be picked up after school by 3:20 daily.

🚨 JEFCOED Families,
Due to the extremely cold temperatures and the possibility of black ice on roadways, all Jefferson County Schools and Offices will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.
No decision has been made for Tuesday. We will continue to evaluate the weather situation one day at a time, in an effort to make the most informed decision.

#GoodThingsHappening!💙 We are thrilled to share that more than two dozen JEFCOED schools earned the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR Certification! To earn this honor, these schools had to have an ENERGY STAR score of at least 75, meaning they run at least 75% more efficiently than similar buildings across the country.
In recognition of their commitment to energy conservation and sustainability, Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin and representatives from Cenergistic presented 27 of our schools with awards and certificates at this week’s board meeting! Please help us congratulate the following schools:
