We are excited to share that several of our talented students have had their artwork accepted into the 2025-2026 Virtual Art Competition of Alabama! This is a huge accomplishment and a wonderful recognition of their creativity and hard work. Winners will receive a congratulatory letter from the Alabama Art Education Association President and a Visual Arts Competition of Alabama certificate. The winners will go on to represent the state of Alabama at the 2026 National Art Education Association Conference in Chicago, IL from March 5th- 7th!

⭐️ Pre-k applications for next year are open until Sunday, February 22nd!! ⭐️ Application Period: Start Date: Thursday, January 15, 2026 End Date: Sunday, February 22, 2026 Please note that enrollment in the Pre-K Program is based on a random selection drawing, and applications for the drawing must be submitted by February 22, 2026. After this date, you can still apply to be placed on the waiting list. All public drawings will be held at the Jefferson County Board of Education. Our Fine Arts Night has been a success! Thank you to the families who came out to support our students, the food trucks who came out to feed us, and the talented students who provided art and entertainment for the night.

Each framed masterpiece is $35 and can be purchased online or in person. Every purchase directly supports our school’s art program and helps provide additional resources for our students.

Last week we celebrated our 2nd-5th grade students for their progress and achievement on their mid-year testing. Students were recognized for making benchmark in M-Class testing, as well as growing their iReady scores by 25, 50, 75, or 100 points. Our Yellowjackets are working hard to meet their annual and stretch growth goals by the end of the year!

#GoodThingsHappening!💙 We are thrilled to share that more than two dozen JEFCOED schools earned the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR Certification! To earn this honor, these schools had to have an ENERGY STAR score of at least 75, meaning they run at least 75% more efficiently than similar buildings across the country.

In recognition of their commitment to energy conservation and sustainability, Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin and representatives from Cenergistic presented 27 of our schools with awards and certificates at this week’s board meeting! Please help us congratulate the following schools:

The 2026 McCalla Elementary Student Fine Arts Night is just one month away! Join us on February 11th, 2026, from 4:30–6:30 PM in the gymnasium as we celebrate the incredible artistic achievements of our PreK–5th grade students.

Enjoy live performances from our school choir, followed by our theater club showcase. Student artwork will be on display and available for purchase both in person and online. Our online Art Show will be live from January 26th through February 15th, giving families plenty of time to view and purchase artwork from anywhere. Several food trucks will also be on site, so come hungry and ready to celebrate creativity!

Congratulations to our December Students of the Month! December was all about making a difference in someone's day, no matter how big or small.
