This morning, the School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) and Curriculum Associates presented senior Makyiah Kelley with a $1,000 scholarship to assist her in pursuing a college degree in one of the most admirable and impactful professions—teaching. Makyiah was chosen by Dr. Gonsoulin and Dr. Dallas for demonstrating academic excellence and a deep passion for shaping the future through education. Even more inspiring is her commitment to stay right here in Alabama to make a difference in the lives of local students. Makyiah will begin this journey at Jacksonville State University. We can't wait to see her pour into the next generation of learners! 🎉Congratulations, Makyiah!
Please join us in congratulating these seniors who have obtained their Health Science credentials: Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) and Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). We also have 6 students who are now dual credentialed! All of these students will receive their White Coats at the county-wide ceremony next week. CCHS has 56 students this year who were able to pass these very rigorous tests, and we want to let them know how proud we are of them! Congratulations to all of you! We know how hard you worked to earn this!
Last week CCHS held the Cubby Awards. This is a favorite tradition for students and staff alike. Students vote for each category to recognize their classmates and teachers. This year's theme was Gatsby! Students and teachers showed up in their best '20s attire. Here are some highlights from the night in case you missed it!
Our incredible Biomedical Science students at Clay Chalkville High School had an amazing time sharing their knowledge and passion at Chalkville Elementary's STEM Day!
From strawberry DNA extractions and blood composition demos to fingerprinting, mystery powder analysis, and even building homemade stethoscopes—our future healthcare professionals brought science to life for the next generation.
We’re so proud of these students for inspiring curiosity and excitement in STEM. Cougar Nation is in great hands with these young scientists leading the way!

Students in Ms. Bridges' class worked on their CPR and choking skills. There is no substitute for these skills when the situation calls for it. These students are now certified to perform these life saving skills! We are so proud of each of them!
Congratulations to this quarters JEFCOED Strong Award at CCHS, Ms. Tracy Marshlar. This award is a new honor for employess at JEFCOED schools. They did it!! Students from Ms. Wilcox’s AP Biology class collaborated with researchers at Towson University in Baltimore to design and conduct an experiment investigating how salt tolerances may impact where three small anemone species found in the Chesapeake Bay choose to live. To accomplish this, they developed new marine aquaculture skills, as well as experimental design and data analysis skills. Five of the students traveled to Mobile, Alabama to present their results at the 2025 Benthic Ecology Meeting, a professional conference for research scientists. We couldn’t be more proud of their effort and follow-through! Go Cougars!
These students passed the National Certification Exam through the NHA to become certified as CPhTs (Certified Pharmacy Technicians). Being able to pass this exam takes such grit, critical thinking, and the ability to apply the information in real scenarios. These students are now ready to work in the retail or hospital pharmacy settings as soon as they graduate. Congratulations to them all. We are so proud of them and the teachers that helped them prepare!

The Cubby Awards are a time honored tradition at CCHS. They give students an opportunity to recognize their peers and teachers for the great things they do. This year's Cubbies theme is Great Gatsby. We can't wait to see everyone in their best Gatsby themed attire! This year's ceremony will be 4/29 at 5:30 PM in the CCHS auditorium.
Chef Evans' Hospitality and Tourism students experimented with different forms of heat this week. They looked at radiation, convection, and conduction as forms of heat. They explored how these forms of heat can be used in the kitchen and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
This past Friday, 14 CCHS students passed the Patient Care Technician certification exam. Talk about being career ready! This is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication in the Health Sciences program for these students and their teachers. We are so proud of them!
