Today, our counselor, Mrs. Southerland, read "The Hallo-Wiener" 🌭to the kindergarten and 1st grade classes. Mrs. Southerland ❤️LOVES❤️ Wiener dogs, and she couldn't wait to share this book with them. She worked on listening skills, following directions, and being grateful during her story📖 and lesson that followed. The kids loved it!

After the parents and students finished Part 1 of "Camp Read A Lot"⛺, they headed outside and followed a story book📚 that was posted along a trail that led to a campfire with Mr. Garrison ready to sing campfire 🔥songs. Everyone was invited to sit on bales of hay, blankets, or chairs and sing 🎶along with Mr. Garrison. We ended the night with Mrs. Amber doing a little science experiment with the fire. We appreciate all of the families and friends that came out to "Camp Read A Lot" and for your support of West Jefferson Elementary!! 🐾

On Tuesday evening, October 6th, we held "Camp Read A Lot"⛺. The parents were invited to attend a presentation on the Alabama Literacy Act while their children played several literacy games 📚and had a camping smores themed snack. There was also a Parent Information Table available as well as a ⭐"Parent Brag Board"⭐ that parents could write messages bragging on their child or children. See part 2 for what happened next.......

This week is Fire 🔥Prevention Week, so today, we had Amber Goodwin, from West Jefferson Fire and Rescue, and Zoe Whorton, from Sumiton Fire and Rescue, come and discuss fire safety with each class! The kids learned about "🛑stop, drop, and roll", staying low, having a fire safety plan at home, and having a safe meeting place outside. All of the students got to get inside the back seat of the firetruck🚒 and see all of the tools used on a firetruck. Mrs. Amber put on her full gear🧑🚒 so they could see what a firefighter looks like up close and not be afraid. They asked lots of great questions and received fire hats, a Jr. firefighter badge, and other goodies thanks to West Jefferson Fire and Rescue!!🚒🧯🔥Thanks Mrs. Amber and Ms. Zoe as well as West Jefferson Fire and Rescue and Sumiton Fire and Rescue!!

The kids were chauffeured to 🐔Chick-Fil-A in Fultondale where there enjoyed a nice lunch and milkshakes or ice cream🍨 for all of their hard work and dedication!!! Again, we are SOO proud of these 13 students and our hope is that we can double that number of students who make a 4 on this school year's test!!!🤩

⭐Part 1
On Friday, Oct. 2nd, our current 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students that scored either a 4 (highest possible score) on reading or math or both on last year's ACAP test, received the red carpet treatment🥳. They started with a private photo shoot 📸before walking the red carpet with their peers cheering📣 them on and stepping into a stretch Hummer limousine for a trip to Chick-Fil-A🐔 in Fultondale (Thanks CFA!)!!!! The limousine driver had sparkling Welch's grape juice🍇 for them to enjoy on their ride.
