Playing ball on historical turf. ⚾⚾⚾ Today, the Fultondale Wildcats and Shades Valley Mounties faced off at Rickwood Field -- where baseball legends once played, including Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, and Hank Aaron. For the Mounties, this is Year 4 of the Rickwood Classic, but for Coach Darryl Dunbar of Shades Valley High School, it’s a homecoming. Before leading the next generation, he played ball at Rickwood during his high school days.

#GoodThingsHappening!💙 We are thrilled to share that more than two dozen JEFCOED schools earned the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR Certification! To earn this honor, these schools had to have an ENERGY STAR score of at least 75, meaning they run at least 75% more efficiently than similar buildings across the country.

In recognition of their commitment to energy conservation and sustainability, Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin and representatives from Cenergistic presented 27 of our schools with awards and certificates at this week’s board meeting! Please help us congratulate the following schools:

History made at Shades Valley!🤼‍♀️🎉 Let’s hear it for Heather Butler, the first student in school history to place in a girls wrestling event! During Battle in the Burg, Heather had a stellar performance and, with three 1st period pins, went on to win 1st place! We congratulate Heather on this major achievement and can’t wait to see what she continues to accomplish this season!

We appreciate each student who attended our first Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council meeting of the year! During these meetings, student representatives from throughout our district participate in thought-provoking conversations with Dr. Gonsoulin.
