We are pleased to announce that Dr. Marvin A. Carter II has been selected to serve as principal of Shades Valley High School.
Dr. Carter is a native of Wilcox County, Alabama, and has earned four degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As an educator, Dr. Carter, who is entering his 20th year in education, has served in various capacities between two school districts. His roles include teaching middle school history and serving as a high school assistant principal and middle school principal. As Dr. Carter enters this new chapter, he is already a member of the Mounties family, most recently holding the position of principal at Irondale Middle School.
During his time as an educator and administrator, Dr. Carter has received numerous awards and honors, including being named the Alabama District IV Teacher of the Year and a UAB Young Alumni Rising Star.
Dr. Carter's passion is working with other educators and stakeholders to support the academic and extracurricular success of students to become responsible, contributing members of society.
