JEFCOED Teacher of the Year finalist, Mrs. Nefertiti LeBeaux, is passionate about preparing her students for the future.

“I plan every day with the end in mind,” said LeBeaux, a science teacher at Pleasant Grove High School. “What do I want my kids to accomplish? What can they take from my classroom and go out into the real world, and continue on?”

Principal Jarvis Watkins said Mrs. LeBeaux’s work ethic and teaching style speak for themselves.

“Words can't express her value to our school and our students,” Watkins said. “Especially with students focusing on getting to college and careers after graduating, she makes sure they’re prepared.”

LeBeaux not only prioritizes college and career readiness, but she also works hard to make her lessons fun and engaging.

“I have this little running joke in my classroom where I say that I’m Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus,” LeBeaux said. “And if you ever grew up on watching that, she was very hands-on, very unorthodox.”

Mrs. LeBeaux is one of five finalists for JEFCOED’s Secondary Teacher of the Year award. You can click here to meet our other finalists.
