Former NASA Astronaut Mike Massimino is inspiring students to reach for the stars! On Thursday, Massimino spoke to students at Minor Middle School, where he shared his experience as an astronaut and the journey it took to achieve his dreams.
While speaking to students, Massimino talked about the role education played in accomplishing his goals.
“I think that's the reason to come here to the school is to stress that and to show them that if you work hard in school and don't give up, you know, cool things can happen in your life,” Massimino said.

After Massimino’s presentation, we spoke with Minor Middle School 8th grader Skhyler Cannon, who said she felt inspired by his visit.
“It’s interesting to meet and learn about the experience that they had in space,” Cannon said. “Learning how he said he made mistakes before but he didn't give up, and he kept trying. I just felt very inspired by that, not to give up and keep trying to your goal.”

Cannon was one of several students who had thoughtful questions for Massimino, who shared that he too was curious about space and science as a child.
“It's very interesting to hear it coming from the young people now that they still have that same interest, a lot of them, in how things work and how do you do things,” Massimino said.
We thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Massimino’s presentation, and appreciate him for visiting Minor Middle School. It was wonderful to see him motivate our students and help grow their excitement for education!
