We are excited to share that the Jefferson County Board of Education approved the hiring of two new football coaches during Tuesday’s special-called board meeting.
Rico Jackson will serve as head coach of Minor High School, and Grady Griffin will take on coaching duties at Center Point High School.
Coach Jackson joins the Minor Tigers from Anniston High School, where he served as the head football coach since 2023. Under his leadership, Anniston finished last season with a 14-1 record and was runner-up for the state championship in Class 4A.
Coach Jackson is no stranger to the Birmingham area, as his extensive resume includes coaching at both Tarrant and Fairfield.
Coach Grady Griffin doesn’t have to go far for his new role. Already a member of the JEFCOED family, Griffin spent the last two seasons serving as offensive coordinator at Pinson Valley High School, where the Indians averaged 30.3 points per game.
Before then, he served as head coach at Aliceville High School from 2021 to 2024 and was nominated for the ALFC Coach of the Year in 2022.
Griffin’s experience also includes serving as head coach at both Francis Marion High School and Erwin Middle School, here in Jefferson County.
Craig Kanaday, Director of Athletics for Jefferson County Schools, said these new coaches are tremendous hires for our district.
“Both of these gentlemen have been around the game for a long time, and both have head coaching experience,” Kanaday said. “I am personally excited to see what both men do at their respective schools.”
