Graphic has text and a headshot of Mrs. Stacey Leatherman over a curtain background. The text says "Meet JEFCOED's Teacher of the Year Finalists Stacey Leatherman McAdory Middle School."

With nearly 30 years of teaching experience, McAdory Middle School teacher Mrs. Stacey Leatherman has impacted hundreds of young lives through her profession.

“I always say, ‘once a Leatherman kid, always a Leatherman kid,’” Leatherman said.

Leatherman said she loves her job, and uses it as an opportunity to teach students life skills in addition to science.

"If you look around my room, there's not many science posters, and that's what I teach,” Leatherman said. “But every poster in here and every bulletin board talks about kindness, love, how we treat others. Because I feel like at the end of the day, my number one job is to really help these kids that I'm teaching become amazing human beings.”

McAdory Middle School Principal Dr. Monte B. Abner praised Mrs. Leatherman’s work and her ability to connect with others.

“Mrs. Leatherman makes learning so exciting and not just in the classroom, but it’s prevalent outside the classroom,” Dr. Abner said. “Her work with parents, her work with students, her work with other teachers. So, Mrs. Leatherman is just that teacher’s teacher.”

Mrs. Leatherman is one of five finalists for JEFCOED’s Secondary Teacher of the Year Award. You can meet our other finalists by clicking here.
