The New Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School will open its doors for students on Monday March 2, 2026. The move will signal a new day in the JCIB program as students from both the Pleasant Grove campus (Grades 6-8) and the Irondale campus (Grades 9-12) will attend class under one roof for the first time.
“We are extremely excited about this new campus opening. It is a beautiful facility that will house some of the best and brightest students in the county. Being able to have all grades under one roof will allow for us to streamline our resources and offer a better experience for students, one centered on rigorous academic standards and high achievement,” said Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools.
Students attended their last day of classes at the old campuses on Friday, February 20th. They will participate in remote learning for the week of February 23rd through February 27th. During that time, JEFCOED maintenance crews will move equipment and supplies from the old campuses to the new. The week will also give teachers a chance to organize their rooms before the students’ first day.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Friday, February 27th. Families will also get a chance to visit the school on Sunday, March 1st during an open house event from 2:00-4:00pm.
“I am excited for the JCIB administrators, teachers, and students. I have no doubt that this will soon become one of the top performing schools in the state,” said Gonsoulin.
