Monday marked an exciting new chapter for Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School students! The halls were buzzing as they stepped into their brand-new building for the first day of classes.
Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools, was there to welcome students with smiles and words of encouragement.
“It is just a happy occasion for all of our children to be here,” Gonsoulin said.
JCIB Principal Lori Lightsey was also elated to see her students and educators enjoying their new space. She described her emotions leading up to the first day.
“I’ve just been so excited,” Lightsey said. “And I've smiled so much for a week that my face hurts.”
As students begin to make this space their own, Dr. Gonsoulin believes they will continue to thrive and reach new heights.
“I think when you drive up to this school, the environment speaks to the fact that children will be learning,” Gonsoulin said.
