Did you hear? Kindertown is OPEN for business! Our Kindergarten students have been busy creating businesses and products and TODAY is the grand opening! These students are practicing their public speaking and math skills! We love learning with real world scenarios! #GrantswoodGREAT

On Wednesday, we held our annual Rock Paper Scissors staff tournament! Teachers spent the day challenging their colleagues to a game of 🪨 📄 ✂️! The winner takes the losers beads and at the end of the day the person with the most beads wins! Congrats to our Talented & Gifted Teacher, Ms. Herald, for being the winner! Her strategy was to pick a student and ask them which hand shape to throw 👊🏽 🤚🏽 ✌🏽 and that's what helped her win! #GrantswoodGREAT

Many of us went to sleep on Thursday night, thinking it wouldn't happen after all. And then it did!! The JEFCOED family enjoyed a beautiful snow day on Friday.❄️☃️ Thank you to all of those who sent in pictures. Your smiles and joy warmed our hearts. Here are just a few of the many fantastic pictures we received.

This morning, the Alabama Department of Education approved a resolution recognizing Dr. Walter B. Gonsoulin, Jr. as the 2025 Alabama Superintendent of the Year!! Dr. Gonsoulin serves State School Board Districts Three, Four, and Seven with heart, vision, and determination. We couldn't be prouder of his leadership.

📣 Outdoor classroom upgrade! 🐓🌱🐝 -
Thanks to CaWaCo RC&D (https://cawaco.org/), we received a grant to help us upgrade our outdoor space! Our chickens got nice new coops, nesting boxes, new chicken wire, and tarp! We also got new bee supplies and in March we'll order an additional bee hive!
Our Kindergarten students LOVE learning outside and do a great job caring for our chickens and bees!
We can't wait for everyone to see the newly renovated space!

Hey Grantswood family -
We are so EXCITED to share our new report card score from the Alabama Department of Education. Grantswood Community School received an 86/B on our 2024 report card!
This is a 5 point increase from 2023 and a 13 point increase from 2022!
We are so proud of our students, staff, and family!
WAY TO GO!

Grantswood students did well at the 2024 Exceptional Education Art Show!
🏆First grade student, Jorge, won Best in Show for his artwork!
🏅Mrs. Castle's & Mrs. Peyton's class collaborated on a group painting that took Honorable Mention!
We enjoyed attending the district art show today and celebrating our budding artists!

This week, students in Mrs. Castle's class learned about the election process. Today they took their voter registration cards to the polls and voted on their favorite food and favorite pet.
🍕🍕PIZZA 🍕🍕won by a landslide for our favorite food. However in the pets election we had a three way tie (cat🐈, dog🐕, and hamster 🐹) and that decision will be made at the runoff election!

🍿Popcorn & PJs: Literacy Night 🍿
We had a GREAT time reviewing the Alabama Literacy Act with parents while students got to visit various stations: S’more Sequencing, Writing/Journal making, bookmark crafts, & adopting a reading buddy!
Such a fun event! Thank you to all of our teachers who worked hard to put this event on!

Mrs. Peyton & Mrs. Castle were awarded a grant from Cawaco RC&D Council (www.cawaco.org) to set up an outdoor sensory garden in their new outdoor classroom! Many items game in this week and they spent their morning setting it all up for their students! We can't wait to let our students explore! #GrantswoodGREAT
