We celebrated our 9th graders that have earned a 4.0 this school year with an Ice Cream Party! We are proud of them and look forward to their continued success at GHS!

Mrs. Martin's Food and Nutrition classes have been learning about food biotechnology and the importance of making nutritious meals. From mastering/eating knife skills, making scratch pasta and scratch marinara, they are building real-world basic kitchen skills and career-ready skills in the classroom.

Mrs. Martin's Family and Consumer Sciences students spent April learning how to care for clothes, take body measurements, apply essential sewing techniques, and more. They are wrapping up the month by putting their skills to work on a handmade apron project!

Mrs. Martin's Event Planning and Management students spent April diving into the logistics of contracts, staffing, vendor coordination, lodging/travel accommodations, and contingency planning through a hands-on wedding unit. They even practiced making boutonnieres and bouquets—just in case they ever need to step in and save the day for a couple in need!

This year the Birmingham Area Debate League had their first full tournament. Both Gardendale teams made it to the final bracket and placed 5th and 6th overall in a field of 22 teams.

Congratulations to the 2025-26 GHS Cheer squad!

Mrs. Martin's Family and Consumer Science class appreciate Mrs. Angie Blair and Mr. Jayden from Gardendale's America’s First Credit Union for an engaging and eye-opening lesson to close our Consumer Economics unit! Students experienced real-world budgeting by making choices on housing, transportation, food, and more—only one student managed to have money left at the end of the month! A great reminder of the importance of smart financial decisions.

A huge thank you to Kayla Seymour from Publix for speaking with Mrs. Martin's Food and Nutrition students about job opportunities, the application process, and the importance of employability skills! Students gained valuable insight into how to prepare for the workforce and take advantage of career opportunities both now and in the future.

Mrs. Martin's FACS class has been learning about the stages of life, housing and interiors, their personal roles and responsibilities at home and in the community, dealing with stress, ways to establish boundaries, and how to communicate effectively in various situations. Students are also working on interpersonal and professional skills, such as giving a proper handshake when introducing themselves to others.

Mrs. Martin's Event Planning and Management class has been busy researching local charities in Gardendale and Jefferson County, selecting one to create a themed mock charity event, and presenting informal proposals to a panel of clients for feedback and "Yelp" reviews. At the request of several students, Quin Pearson from Huntingdon College joined us to share insights on how their business program prepares students for a career in event planning. We thank him for making the drive to answer questions about their Business program.
