JEFCOED Teacher of the Year finalist, Ms. Twanna Aremu, is passionate about sharing the significance of history with her students.
“A lot of times, I like to make references to what's happening now so that they can see how history relates to them, how they both correlate with each other, and how that it may affect them,” said Aremu, a history teacher at Center Point High School.
Ms. Aremu encourages discussion among her students, and prides herself on creating an environment where they feel comfortable sharing.
“You always want to make the kids feel like they're welcomed and they're confident enough to say what they want to say,” Aremu said.
Center Point High School Principal Dr. Terrell Brown believes that teaching is more than just a profession, and that Ms. Aremu is exactly where she needs to be.
“It's a calling,” Brown said. “And she is truly called to the profession.”
Ms. Aremu is one of five finalists for JEFCOED’s Secondary Teacher of the Year Award. She said she’s humbled by this opportunity and described what winning would mean to her.
“It would let me know that all these years, everything that I've been putting into this ministry has not gone unnoticed,” Aremu said.
Our new Teachers of the Year will be named on Thursday, March 19, 2026. You can watch a live stream of the event on JEFCOED TV starting at 6:20 p.m. To meet the rest of our Secondary and Elementary Teacher of the Year finalists, click here.
