BRIGHTON – The halls of Brighton School were filled with cheers and applause yesterday morning as administration officially announced Mrs. Amy Colvert as Brighton School's 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year.
The prestigious award, which recognizes educators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to student success, innovative teaching methods, and a positive influence on the school community, was presented to Mrs. Colvert during our morning assembly.
A Legacy of Excellence
Mrs. Colvert, a veteran educator known for her infectious energy and "student-first" philosophy, was selected from a pool of highly qualified nominees. Colleagues describe her as a mentor who consistently goes above and beyond, not just in her lesson planning, but in fostering a classroom environment where every child feels seen and heard.
"Amy doesn’t just teach curriculum; she teaches people," said ESL teacher Valyndra Owens. "Her ability to connect with students and ignite a genuine curiosity for learning is what makes her a cornerstone of our faculty. We are incredibly proud to have her represent Brighton School."
Reactions from the Brighton Family
The news was met with overwhelming support from parents and students alike. "She’s the kind of teacher you never forget," said one parent. "My son went from struggling with confidence to loving school, and that is entirely due to Mrs. Colvert’s patience and encouragement."
For Mrs. Colvert, the award is a shared victory. "I am deeply honored and honestly a bit overwhelmed," she shared following the announcement. "This recognition belongs to my students, whose hard work inspires me every day, and my fellow teachers who make Brighton such a supportive place to call home."
Mrs. Colvert will now move forward as Brighton School’s representative for the district-wide Teacher of the Year honors later this spring.
Congratulations, Mrs. Colvert!
