We are happy to share that Dr. Makella Moore Harris has been named the new Director of Arts Education for Jefferson County Schools!

Dr. Moore Harris is a seasoned educator with more than 21 years of experience in music education and school administration. She holds multiple advanced degrees in music and leadership, with her latest being an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Samford University.

Dr. Moore Harris has a comprehensive background in the arts, having taught band, show choir, music appreciation, humanities, art appreciation, and music theory; along with a successful performance career across regional theaters and national stages like Carnegie Hall. She has also performed as a background vocalist for notable artists, including Dennis Edwards of the Temptations.

Dr. Moore Harris is passionate about supporting young people through the arts, and created a nonprofit organization to do exactly that. She's the founder of Fine Arts Find Life, which promotes mental wellness in underserved youth through the arts. She believes in the power of community collaboration to create positive change, guided by her motto: “Because mental wellness should be a community effort”. 

We are happy to see Dr. Moore Harris bring her extensive experience to this role, and congratulate her on this new chapter.
