McAdory bus driver, Ms. Peggy Coates wasn't sure what to expect before getting behind the wheel.
“I started out wanting the extra pay and the insurance benefits and thinking it would just be a job,” Ms. Coates said.
Being an empathetic person, Ms. Coates said it didn’t take long for her to realize this is not just another job.
“I absolutely loved the kids,” Ms. Coates said. “I learned that I am more than just a bus driver."
Ms. Coates said she wanted to be:
The person who is excited to see students each day, offering a smile and saying 'good morning.'
The person who is on time and present each day so she can give them security.
The person who can form relationships with most, showing them she genuinely cares.
The person who gives respect and expects respect with good behavior.
The kind of person she hopes will inspire students to be the best they can be.
The kind of person who sees a student having a bad day and does or says something that would let them know she noticed and cared.
“It has been more than just what I can do for the students. It has been what they have done for me,” Ms. Coates said. “It has been challenging, awakening, learning a new understanding of patience, and knowing that I have so much love to give to others and not to give up on those who need you the most.”
