Summer Updates - June 11, 2021
Dear JEFCOED Family,
I hope you are having a great start to your summer! We all deserve some much-needed rest and relaxation after the stress of this past school year.
We do have many students still on campus currently. Our Third Semester SOAR Program began this week. Over 5,550 students enrolled and over 450 teachers were hired to work on this special initiative. I have visited several of the schools this week, and I love what I’m seeing! Students are engaged and are strengthening their academic reasoning!
I’ll keep this message brief as we do have several important announcements below. Please enjoy yourself this summer and stay safe.
All the best,

Alabama Broadband Connectivity for Students
Several thousand of our students benefited from this program. This effort provided students qualifying for free or reduced lunch with free internet ( in-home service or hotspots ) for the 2020-2021 school year. Currently, the program is set to expire on June 30, 2021. Now is a good time to consider an alternative like the Emergency Broadband Benefit.
Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB)
Emergency Broadband Benefit is a temporary program that provides a discount of up to $50 per month off the internet bill for qualifying households.
Literacy Act Parent Sessions
The Alabama Literacy Act was passed in 2019 and created to help improve reading in Alabama public schools to ensure students are reading on grade level by the end of the 3rd grade.
In order to help our rising 3rd graders meet the standards necessary for promotion, JEFCOED has scheduled a number of parent sessions.
You can view the full list of sessions on our Literacy Act webpage. There are also several at-home resources posted.
