Update from Dr. Gonsoulin - May 26th

Dear JEFCOED Family,

The end of the school year is finally upon us.  I am excited about the summer break, as well as our SOAR program which will begin on Monday, June 7th.

What a roller coaster this year has been.  We have had to pivot and make changes throughout.  Now, as we approach summer, I want to provide you a few more updates.

Masks will become optional for students, faculty, staff, and visitors at all JEFCOED campuses beginning on June 1, 2021. The number of positive cases in our district has remained low for the last few months.  The current state health order is also set to expire on May 31st.  However, anyone who wants to wear a mask or facial covering is still free to do so.  In fact, we encourage masks for those students, faculty, or staff who have not been fully vaccinated.

Jefferson County Schools will not be requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination.  However, we still are strongly encouraging vaccination.  Any individual, 12 and older, is currently eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Please when it’s your turn, get your shot!  Remember you are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after your second shot of Pfizer or Moderna or two weeks after your shot of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Finally, I can’t say thank you enough!  This has been the most trying school year in my entire career.  The pandemic is not over, but we are at least turning a corner.  I appreciate your patience and understanding during this school year.  I ask for your continued support as we deal with future challenges.  Have a great summer!

All the best,

Dr. Gonsoulin
