Update from Alabama Department of Public Health 9/4/2020
The AHSAA has received a new update from Dr. Scott Harris, MD, MPH, FACP, FIDSA, State Health Officer, Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), regarding spectators at athletic events. Please see below:
Spectators at football games and other athletic events are expected to consistently maintain six feet of distance from people of different households in the stands and where possible in congested areas such as entrances and exits, restrooms, and lines for concessions.
When within six feet of a person from another household in a congested area, spectators must wear masks or other facial coverings. Wearing a mask does not allow someone to disregard the six-foot distancing rule in the stands, but can help limit transmission of the virus in congested areas. (There are exceptions to the facial-covering requirement, such as for children not yet in second grade and people with medical conditions or disabilites that prevent the wearing of a facial covering.)
Host schools should encourage the wearing of facial coverings and take steps to minimize congestion of spectators and violatins of the six-foot rule. The facial-covering and social-distancing requirements are part of the statewide Safer at Home public health order.
