COVID-19

 

***Updates***

COVID-19 positive students will follow these procedures:

  • Must be isolated for at least 5 days after symptoms first appear or 5 days from the test date for asymptomatic individuals

  • Must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications at the end of the 5 day period

  • Improvement of all other symptoms

  • Upon returning to school, the student must wear a mask for at least 5 days.

If the above criteria are not met, the student should isolate for the remaining five days.

Students who have not tested positive for COVID-19 or are not symptomatic should attend school.

Jefferson County Title One Parent and Family Engagement Plan

 

Parents, students will receive our district’s Title One Parent and Family Engagement Plan on Monday, October 31st. Parents, I encourage you to read our district’s plan. As a Title One Parent, we want to keep you informed about  how you can be involved as a parent within Jefferson County. 

 

HMS After School Tutoring

 

Letters will be distributed this week regarding after school tutoring to identified students based upon their performance level on the Fall iReady Diagnostic. Parents, if you would like for your child to participate in after school tutoring, please return the letter to Mrs. May by Friday, November 4th. Tutoring will begin the week of November 7th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15PM-4:15PM. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. May

Student ID Badges/Chromebooks 

All HMS students will/have received an ID badge and chromebook. Parents, students are expected to have their ID badges and chromebooks daily. Per new district guidelines, once a student loses or damages his/her chromebook, a replacement will not be issued. Students will only be allowed to use a chromebook in the classroom. Parents may donate the price of the chromebook for replacement. 

 

Bullying 

Parents, HMS bullying reporting forms are available with our counselors. When a student notifies a teacher or staff member at HMS regarding bullying, the student will be directed to complete the bullying reporting form and submit it to their assigned counselor. 

 

Reminders

**Students are expected to be dropped off and picked up on the side of the building, not the main entrance. Parents are to remain in their vehicles when dropping off and/or picking up students. 

**Classes begin daily at 7:55AM.

**All check-outs must be facilitated by 2:30 PM daily

**Parents, deliveries and DoorDash are not allowed for students at Hueytown Middle School. 

**All parent conferences are scheduled through the main office. If you would like to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher(s), please contact Mrs. Davis in the main office. 

Student Announcements 

**HMS is fundraising for the American Heart Association by Wearing your Halloween Costume on Monday, October 31st!  No Mask, No Face Paint, No Hats- Must be in dress code.  Only students who purchased a ticket will be eligible to wear your costume!  

 

Monday, October 31st: HMS Basketball Teams will travel to Erwin MS for competition play. Tipoff for the 1st game is @ 4:30PM.

 

Tuesday, November 1st: HMS Debate Tournament @ Samford University, 3:30PM

 

Thursday, November 3rd: HMS Basketball Teams will host Fultondale (Girls & 8th Gr Boys Only) @ HMS, 4:30PM
