Weekly Announcements - Week of 9/13 to 9/17


As we continue to navigate through COVID-19 pandemic, parents, we need your assistance with ensuring safety for all of HMS faculty, staff and students. If someone in your home has tested positive for COVID-19 and your child is symptomatic, please follow the exclusion guidelines and contact Nurse Childs. If your child has been tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results, contact our main office and keep your child at home until results have been provided. Parents, please contact Nurse Childs regarding COVID-19 related self quarantining. COVID-19 related absences are only provided if parents have contacted Nurse Childs and we have documented the COVID-19 absence. If you have any specific questions, please contact our main office. 


**Parents, please email your child’s teachers for make-up assignments if he/she is excluded from school due to COVID-19 exposure. 


Progress Reports

HMS 1st Nine Weeks Progress Reports will be distributed September 16th. 


Make-Up Assignments

Assignments eligible for students to make-up are coded as “0.01” in PowerSchool. The deadline for students who have returned back to school from COVID related absences is October 1st. If you have specific questions, please contact your child’s teacher.


iReady Diagnostic Testing

We will be facilitating iReady diagnostic testing this week. All students will be taking Math and Language Arts assessments. This assessment will assist us address our students' academic deficiencies. We will administer this assessment in all Math and Language Arts classes using the schedule below:

Math: September 7th-10th

Language Arts: September 14th-17th

Make-Up Days: September 21st-24th



**All students, employees, and visitors must wear a mask while on campus during the school day.

**Students are expected to be dropped off and picked up on the side of the building, not the main entrance. Parents are to remain in their vehicles when dropping off and/or picking up students. 

**Classes begin daily at 7:55AM.

**All check-outs must be facilitated by 2:30 PM daily

**All HMS Athletic Events will use Go Fan for purchasing tickets. 


Student Announcements

**Science Olympiad is a national science competition that explores several fields of science. All interested students should see Ms. Wasilevich in room 401 (7th grade gold science room) to sign up.

"*Are you interested in building and driving robots? Would you like to show off your skills in robotic competitions? If so, please see Ms. Averhart in room 110 to join the HMS Robotics Club."

**Are you interested in a career as an actor, dancer or film director? The Hueytown Drama Club is hosting a Talent Show (October 1st) and all middle school students are invited to audition. All participants must Submit an audition tapes to by the deadline: Sept 16th. 

**HMS Fall Picture Day will be September 21st. Students must adhere to dress code expectations. 

**HMS Annual Title One Meeting/Open House will be September 21st @ 6PM

Tuesday, September 14th: HMS Cross Country Meet @ Corner MS, 3:45PM

Wednesday, September 15th: HMS Volleyball vs Irondale/North Jefferson, 4:30PM @ HMS

Thursday, September 16th: HMS Football @ North Jefferson, 6PM

Thursday, September 16th: HMS Volleyball vs Oak Grove, 4:30PM @ HMS
