4/5/2020 Update from Mrs. Peterson
Good Evening Hueytown Middle School Community,
I pray that all of our families are safe during this time. I know that there are concerns and uncertainty about the end of the school year. I want to provide you with updated information on our instructional plans for our Hueytown Middle School learners. Our plan will consist of the following: grade recovery and academic engagement. Currently, our teachers are analyzing our students' grades to determine the need for academic support through grade recovery. Beginning on April 6th, our teachers will be communicating virtually or via phone calls with parents/guardians about students' progress. Parents, I am requesting that you check your email and have your children check their Google Classroom for information.
Final grades will be calculated for the year by averaging 1NW-3NW for year-long courses. Semester courses will be calculated using 1/2 credit (1NW-2NW) and 1/2 credit (3NW). We will not have 4NW grades.
Students who are not in satisfactory standing will be provided the opportunity to participate in grade recovery. Teachers will be communicating with parents beginning April 6th regarding the plan for students to recover their grades.
Opportunities for learning for all students will be through engaging lessons. The platforms for these lessons can be using Edgenuity, Dreambox, Google Classrooms and a plethora of other virtual resources. Feedback will be provided to students from the teachers. However, students will not receive grades for these lessons.
Faculty Office Hours
HMS teachers will be available virtually Mondays through Fridays from 9AM-12noon. If you have questions, please email your child's teacher. All of our faculty email addresses are located on our school's website, https://www.jefcoed.
com/hueytownms. Our teachers will have weekly check-ins with our students on Wednesdays @ 10 AM through advisory (2nd Period).
Due to our current restrictions, Hueytown Middle School is closed until further notice. Parents, I am aware of your concern for students to be able to get their belongings and instruments; however, safety is our utmost priority. When we receive further information from our district leadership regarding building access, I will communicate that information to you.
Medication Pick-Up has been canceled for Wednesday, April 8th and Thursday, April 9th. Information will be forthcoming from our district regarding opportunities to pick up medication.
As I have stated before, this is a process and journey that we will travel together. As principal, I am here to support you and our students. I know you may have specific questions that you would like to address with me. I encourage you to email me and I will respond to you. At HMS, we are ALL IN and we PROTECT THE PAW!
Stay Safe. Stay Encouraged.
