NOTICE: DESTRUCTION OF RECORDS
According to the Alabama Administrative Code, 290-8-9-08 (2) (h), an education agency must retain a copy of education records for five (5) years after the termination of the special education program for which they were used. At the end of the five (5) years retention period, the education agency will provide written notice to parents to inform them that the special education records are no longer needed and will be destroyed. This serves as a notice that special education records for students who attended Jefferson County Schools and whose birthday is on or before December 31, 1997 will be destroyed after February 9, 2024. Parents or students may request the records by sending a written request to the Director of Exceptional Education at The Jefferson County Board of Education at the following address:

Clay-Chalkville High School Names New Head Football Coach with Championship Experience and Deep Community Ties
The Clay-Chalkville Cougars didn’t have to go far to find their next head football coach. Assistant Coach Stuart Floyd was officially promoted to Head Coach during Thursday’s Jefferson County Schools’ Board of Education meeting.

Notice of April Board Meetings
The Jefferson County Board of Education will have a Special Called Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Board's office, 2100 18th Street South, Birmingham, Alabama, for the purpose of considering general board business. The Committee Meeting will follow.
The regular April Board Meeting will be Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Board's office. -

While repairing our systems from the ransomware attack is a tedious process, I am happy to say we are making progress each and every day! I continue to be impressed with the diligence, commitment, and speed of our technology staff. -

JEFCOED Important Update - April 1, 2023
The Jefferson County School System was the victim of a ransomware attack during Spring Break. Preliminary investigations have not revealed any evidence of a breach of sensitive personally identifiable information. However, we will continue to investigate any possibility of compromised data and notify stakeholders accordingly if discovered.

Notice of JEFCOED Board and Committee Meetings
The Jefferson County Board of Education will have a Special Called Board meeting on March 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the board’s office, 2100 18th Street South, Birmingham, Alabama. The purpose of the meeting shall be to consider and vote on personnel actions and other board business. The Jefferson County Board of Education will meet for our regular Committee Meeting immediately following the Special Called Board Meeting.
The regular March Board Meeting will be on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Board Room . -
Chromebook Care
We need your help! In the summer of 2020, JEFCOED became a one-to-one district. This means every child has access to a chromebook, paid for by JEFCOED. However, since that time, we have continued to see numerous devices damaged or lost.

The Jefferson County School District is proud to announce that its annual Exceptional Prom will be held on Thursday, May 19th at the Finley Center in Hoover. It will be from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The Jefferson County Board of Education has approved new pay rates for several categories of substitutes. The changes were voted on during Thursday’s meeting and will take effect immediately.
