As the second largest school district in Alabama, we serve over 36,000 students from Pre-K to 12th grade in 57 schools located throughout Jefferson County. The JEFCOED Central Office Building is in Birmingham, Alabama. We have about 4,500 teachers, administrators, and support staff, and offer many career opportunities in public education.

Our district has 13 feeder patterns including:

  • 30 elementary schools

  • 11 middle schools

  • 13 high schools

  • 1 International Baccalaureate school (2 campuses)

  • 1 special needs school

  • 1 alternative school

  • 1 virtual academy -

  • and many new capital projects

Our educators and support staff serve a diverse student population and aim to make a positive impact on the lives of our district's children, families, and communities. Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin leads our district with a mission to do what's right for kids.
