About Our School
The Jefferson County Virtual Academy of Learning (JCVAL) provides a tuition-free full-time virtual option to students in grades 4-12. The courses offered at JCVAL are made available through a partnership with Edmentum’s EdOptions Academy and include a full Elementary and Secondary program. Elementary students (grades 4-5) will be offered all four core courses as well as electives. Secondary students (grades 6-12) will be offered all core courses, electives, AP, Dual Enrollment World Language, and Career and Technical Education courses; everything a student needs to earn a district-approved diploma.
The Jefferson County Virtual Academy of Learning is a stand-alone school within the JEFCOED school system. Each student will be officially enrolled at JCVAL and must be withdrawn from their current school. Students who are zoned to attend a JEFCOED school will be eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities such as athletics, band, and clubs at the school he or she is zoned to attend. Students must meet the same extracurricular activity eligibility requirements as students enrolled in the on-campus school program, including, but not limited to, applicable tryouts and any applicable Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) requirements. Student residency for purposes of participating in extracurricular activities will be determined in accordance with applicable state law and AHSAA guidelines. Students who wish to be NCAA compliant should make their needs known to our school counselor prior to attempting virtual coursework. Students who are NOT zoned for a JEFCOED school will NOT be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities on other JEFCOED school campuses.
