About Our School

Irondale Community School was established in 1886. Our school serves over 450 students, PreK through 5th grade. Our students go on to attend Irondale Middle School or the Jefferson County International Baccalaureate Middle School and then to Shades Valley High School or to the Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School.

All of our teachers are highly-qualified. Numerous teachers hold Master’s Degrees. We are an AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science & Technology Initiative) and an ARI (Alabama Reading Initiative) site.

Our media center is equipped with over 6,000 books. Our building is fully handicapped accessible. We are a Title I School; we receive Federal funding to ensure each student’s needs are met.

Our students are able to experience art, music, and physical education. In addition, students visit our extensive media center as well as participate in many other programs. Every staff member at ICS cares about our students!

Irondale Community School is a proud member of the Jefferson County School System, which is located in the greater metropolitan area of Birmingham is Alabama’s second-largest school district.  With 52 schools, 2,564 teachers, and 35,843 students, the system offers a multitude of academic, career technical, and extracurricular opportunities for students.
