My name is Yohna L. Mills, and I am so excited to start this new adventure in my educational career. I have spent 30 years in education as a classroom teacher. I have taught grades 1-8. I began my career in the Parochial School System from ‘91-’02. I left that position in 2001 to begin in public school education at Avondale Elementary School, where I taught grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th until 2016. During my tenure at Avondale, I was able to receive my National Boards in Middle Childhood Generalist and then my Educational Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of Montevallo. I moved to Margaret Elementary School where I taught 5th grade Science until 2019. I was then presented with the opportunity to teach 6th grade math and science at Irondale Middle School. At Irondale I was tasked with being grade level leader, sat in many leadership positions at the school level and had the opportunity to work with administration as a leader in the school. In 2022, I was honored to be a Teacher of the Year finalist for Jefferson County. I look forward to working with administrators, teachers, all school staff, parents, and most of all the students, to help make Chalkville Elementary the best that it can be.
