Ability Focused Social Skills Club

The Ability Focused Social Skills Club is an organization created by Mrs. Antwine in 2017 and is currently advised by Mrs. Gilbert for the 2018-2019 school year.

This club provides students of all academic, developmental, and social abilities with opportunities to learn how to accept differences, make friends, and help others. “Peer to Peer Mediation” is an evidence based practice that has been found to have great impact on outcomes for students with various disabilities. Allowing exceptional education teachers to teach same-aged peers (Peer Helpers) about the unique characteristics of various disabilities is the first step to building effective peer supports. If your child is selected to be a Peer Helper, it is based on your child’s creativity, leadership potential, positive attitude, helping personality, and kindness. This very selective group will be recognized as student leaders amongst the school’s students, teachers, and administration. It is an honor to be selected!

Some of the fun activities that we have planned include decorating cookies for Valentine’s Day, practicing basic math and reading skills, eating lunch and breakfast together, going on exciting field trips, and in-school service projects to promote unity.

Permission forms for students nominated by their teachers will be sent home soon!
