Grantswood Community School, located in Irondale, Alabama, opened its doors in 1979 as part of the Jefferson County School District, the second largest school district in the state. A school with a long history of excellence, Grantswood Community School received national honors and recognition in the 1990s from the United States Department of Education in Washington, D.C. as a National Blue Ribbon School. Grantswood Community School is now a kindergarten through second-grade school with over 350 students. When leaving second grade, students attend our feeder pattern schools as follows: Irondale Community School for third through fifth grades, Irondale Middle School for sixth through eighth grades, and Shades Valley High School for ninth through twelfth grades.
