Grantswood Community School, located in Irondale, Alabama, opened its doors in 1979 as part of the Jefferson County School District, the second largest school district in the state. A school with a long history of excellence, Grantswood Community School received national honors and recognition in the 1990s from the United States Department of Education in Washington, D.C. as a National Blue Ribbon School. Grantswood Community School is now a PreK through fifth grade school with nearly 500 students. When leaving fifth grade, students attend our feeder pattern schools as follows: Irondale Middle School for sixth through eighth grades and Shades Valley High School for ninth through twelfth grades.
