• Warren Craig Pouncey, Ed.D.

    JEFCOED's Superintendent

    Dr. Craig Pouncey has been Superintendent of the Jefferson County School District since July 1, 2014. He was recently named the 2018 Alabama Superintendent of the Year by the Association of School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA). Serving more than 36,000 students in 57 schools, Jefferson County is Alabama's second-largest school sytem. Dr. Pouncey previously served as Chief of Staff for the AlabamaState Department of Education and Superintendent of Education for Crenshaw County Schools. He received his Ed.D. from Samford University.

    While at the Alabama State Department of Education, his responsibilities included proper use and distribution of all state and federal funds for K-12, legislative liaison, and financial accountability.

    His hobbies are spending time with family, including four grandchildren, hunting, fishing and managing timber and his goal for this school year is to improve communication with stakeholders.
