PHYSICAL EDUCATION

All students are required to take one year of physical education or one credit of marching band.  All students must also earn one half credit of Health Education.

 

Health - The purpose of this course is to teach the components of a healthy lifestyle.  The focus will be on such topics as the unique qualities of each individual, the value of relationships, nutrition, diet, accidents, emergencies, managing stress, the danger of drugs, addiction, CPR, first aid, HIV/Aids, abstinence, and other health issues.  This course may be paired with Driver Education or Physical Education.

 

Driver Education - This course is designed to improve the driving skills of the student.  Students spend time on their own driving miles and recording them in a mileage log for a grade.  Students are also graded on performance while driving with the instructor.  Four full weeks are spent in the classroom teaching students the rules of the road before a student is allowed to drive.

 

Physical Education - The focus of this course is health-enhancing physical activity.  The lifelong individualized fitness education provides a blueprint for a lifetime of healthy living.  Students learn to apply the various aspects of fitness and assess their own fitness levels.  Students are required to develop and maintain an individual level of fitness that forms the groundwork for a healthy future.  This is a required course for all entering freshmen students.

 

Team Sports - This course is offered for students in grades 10-12.  It is designed to provide students the opportunity to participate in a variety of team sports. 

 

Recreational Sports - This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, wellness, fitness, personal skills and quality of life for students.  This course is offered for students in grades 10-12.

 

Athletics -   This course is for students who are participating in the athletic program and must be approved by the coach for the specific term.  It is divided into gender categories and different sport’s areas.
