FOREIGN LANGUAGE

The Advanced Academic Diploma requires students to earn two credits in foreign language.

 

Spanish I - This course is an advanced academic course in which students use reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities to build an appreciation of the Spanish language and culture.  Students will learn communication skills which will employ basic vocabulary and grammar.  Competence in English will contribute to success in this course.

 

Spanish II - This course builds on the skills developed in Spanish I.  Communicative competence will increase as students continue using their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.  Basic grammar will be completed, vocabulary will increase, and culture will be closely examined through literature and realia.  Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish I.

 

Honors/Pre AP Spanish III - This course delves more deeply into the basic vocabulary and grammar learned in Spanish I and II.  More emphasis is placed on speaking and thinking in the language.  Students will be given opportunities to experience areas of Hispanic culture. Prerequisite: Spanish I & II.

 

 

French I - This course is an advanced academic course in which students use reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities to build an appreciation of the French language and culture.  Students will learn communication skills which will employ basic vocabulary and grammar.  Competence in English will contribute to success in this course.

 

French II - This course builds on the skills developed in French I.  Communicative competence will increase as students continue using their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.  Basic grammar will be completed, vocabulary will increase, and culture will be closely examined through literature and realia.  Prerequisite: Successful completion of French I.

 

Honors/Pre AP French IIIThis course will broaden students communication skills in French through the understanding of written and spoken language beyond the school setting.  Successful completion of French I and II teacher recommendation.
