FINE ARTS

All students are required to earn one credit in a fine arts area.

 

Art I - This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of drawing, painting, sculpture, and the applied arts. Projects are discipline based. The study and application of art productions, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics is included.

 

Academy Art I - This class is for academy art students who have had an interview with the instructor. Students will be involved in a four year Art Academy program. The enrollment for this class requires the teacher's permission and signature. This program is developed for students interested in pursuing an art career will cover content in drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking.

This course if only for freshmen.

 

Art Academy Design - This class is for academy art students who have had an interview with the instructor. Students will be involved in a four year Art Academy program. The enrollment for this class needs both the teacher's signature and permission. This class provides classroom and laboratory experience in the use of the Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop software. The student will learn basic software applications doing creative and artistic projects and assignments.

This class is for freshmen only.

Photography – This class is for second year academy students who wish to focus on the photographic media. The student will learn the basic concepts of photography and printing using the computer. Prerequisite: Art Academy.

 

Art II - This is a continuation of the first art class using various media with greater emphasis on building a visual vocabulary. Additional art history themes are explored using a disciplined based approach. A more in-depth study and use of art criticism and aesthetics is included.

Prerequisite: High School Art I.

 

Art III - This course offers students more exposure and opportunities to utilize different media in the artistic arena. It expands on art history concepts and utilizes a disciplined based approach.

Prerequisite: Art I & Art II.

 

Advanced Placement Art - This course is for students who are interested in the practical experience of art. The student must develop a portfolio which reflects quality, concentration and breadth in a variety of media and subjects.

Prerequisite: Two years of art

 

Painting - This course is for students seeking a second or third year of art to specialize in the area of painting in different media.

Prerequisite: One year of art.

 

Concert Choir - This course is for students interested in participating in a vocal music program. The course includes learning, practicing, and performing various types of vocal music from many periods of history and various genre of musical types from gospel, rap, Broadway, spiritual, popular, and others.

 

Show Choir - This course is for students selected to be in the performing show choir. This class mixes the concepts of vocal music and dance together to for a performing unit.

 

Marching Band - This course is for students interested in learning and playing a musical instrument and performing with the marching band. The course will include learning music and performing a half time show, as well, as participating in various Saturday marching competitions. Students will be expected to participate in the Summer Band Program.

 

Concert Band - This course is for students interested in learning and playing a musical instrument and performing in concert season. Students will participate in various concerts and competitions throughout the Spring term.

 

Humanities – This course is for students interested in learning about a wide variety of arts from the visual to the performing arts.

 

Basic Dance - This course offers students the opportunities to pursue the basics in aerobics and dance. This class introduces students to ballet, jazz, and other forms of dance along with the exercises and movements required to prepare and implement the dance.

 

Intermediate Dance - This is the second year program of dance. It expands upon skills learned in dance and the various types of dance movements. It allows students the opportunity to perform before an audience showing the skills they have learned.

 

Theatre Arts – The study of performance of dramatic productions. Students will be involved in performing or producing plays for the school and community.

 

Technical Theatre – This class is for students interested in the backstage areas of production. It encompasses sets design/building, lights, and sound.
