ACT Registration: The next ACT will be offered October 24, 2009. Regular registration deadline is
September 18, 2009. Basic registration fee is $32.00. ACT Plus Writing is $47.00. Late registration is September 19 – October 2, 2009 (additional $21.00 fee). Registration packets may be obtained in the guidance department or you may register online at www.actstudent.org .
SAT Registration: The next opportunity for testing is October 10, 2009. Regular registration deadline is
September 9, 2009. Late registration: September 10-23, 2009. Registration fee for the Reasoning Test
is $45.00. (Late Registration fee is $23.00 extra). Registration should be handled online at
www.collegeboard.com .

ACT and/or SAT. This website has tutorials, practice sessions, vocabulary builders, and other tools that
might be helpful to you!

Merit Aid: Each year, billions of dollars in merit-based scholarships from colleges are made available to students.
Merit aid is awarded to students with a broad range of GPAs. Students with a 2.0 GPA or higher often
qualify. MeritAid.com is the first comprehensive Web site dedicated to helping students with the college
search by matching them to merit-based scholarships from colleges across the country.

Selective Service: Men must register with the Selective Service System within 30 days of their 18th birthday.
Birmingham Zoo Volunteers Needed: Each year the Birmingham Zoo has Boo-at-the-Zoo as well as ZooLights.
The zoo needs volunteers to help with games, passing out candy, passing out maps, giving directions,
assisting kids and others going in and out of activities and games....etc. Volunteers must be at least

Coca-Cola Scholarship: Coca-Cola is awarding $3 million a year in scholarships to 250 deserving, motivated,
dedicated, involved high school seniors. Apply online at: www.coca-colascholars.org. DEADLINE is

Oh, the Places You’ll Go: Dr; Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! College Scholarship recognizes a high school
Senior who understands and values the limitless possibilities that education can offer with a

Students against tobacco: The Alabama Students Against Tobacco program is part of the Alabama Sports
Festival that enlist student-ambassadors to speak out against the use of tobacco products.
Application is available in the counselor’s office. Deadline is October 9, 2009.
Kid’s Chance Scholarship: Provides scholarships to children who have had a parent killed or permanently
disabled in an on-the-job accident. DEADLINE: May 1, 2010.

UAB ARMY ROTC: Army ROTC awards two, three, and foru0year scholarships to many students each year
based on merit. The first step is to register for the Army ROTC class, For registration details and
more information, contact the UAB Army ROTC Department at 934-8749/7215. Open to 11th & 12th.
UAB HONOR’S COLLEGE: UAB Academic Scholarships will be awarded to those students who are admitted
to UAB by November 1st and have an ACT composite score of 25 or SAT of 1130 as well as a
superior GPA. APPLY to the Honor’s College by December 15, 2009.
HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP: The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have
demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need a good
academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a need to contribute to society.
To be eligible seniors must: graduate in spring/summer 2010, plan to enter a college in the US no
later than the fall of 2010, pursue a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution, have financial
need, involved in co-curricular and community service, have a minimum 2.0 GPA and be a US citizen.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY’S COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP: Applications are available online at

BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM: Awards are $1,000 each and may be used for educational expenses
during the first year of college or vocational/technical school. You must be a high school senior, a
resident of the US or Puerto Rico, have a GPA of 2.5, work part-time, be involved in community
service, demonstrate financial need, enroll in an accredited two or four year college or university.

LINLEY HEFLIN SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $3,000 per year to Alabama women
