Text Box: Miss Margaret Chaffin has been at Oak Grove since 2002.  She currently serves as our school’s Reading Coach.
 
Miss Chaffin grew up in Gardendale, Alabama.  She attended Gardendale High School and graduated with an Advanced Academic degree.  She then went on to attend the University of South Alabama in Mobile.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
 
After graduation, Miss Chaffin postponed her teaching     career to work for the North American Mission Board.  
 
Miss Chaffin taught at Concord Elementary School,  fulfilling a first grade maternity leave position.  Miss Chaffin then went on to teach at Gardendale Christian Academy, a small private school.  Here, Miss Chaffin taught first and second grade.  
 
In 2002 Miss Chaffin came to Oak Grove Elementary as a first grade teacher.  She later completed her Master of Arts degree in Early Childhood and Elementary   Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).  She also obtained Reading Specialist  Certification from UAB.
 
In 2005, Oak Grove Elementary attended Alabama Reading Academy and became an Alabama Reading    Initiative school.  Miss Chaffin left her teaching      position to become Oak Grove’s Reading Coach.
 
As a Reading Coach, Miss Chaffin has facilitated professional development for the faculty at Oak Grove.  She has also   assisted teachers in developing quality reading instruction.  Miss Chaffin works closely with teachers, using data to inform instructional decisions.  Miss Chaffin has also developed a school book room with leveled texts, materials, and other professional resources.
 
Miss Chaffin has been honored in the ninth and tenth        editions of Who’s Who Among American Teachers®.  She has also been honored by the Junior League of Birmingham with the “Teacher Take Wing” Award. She has also been active in writing grants.
