Gresham Elementary will celebrate fine art with an evening of fun for the entire family on April 24, 2007. The evening will start with a viewing of the elementary school children's best artwork proudly displayed throughout the school. Mrs. Matherly is working with the children to display their finest and PTO will be providing paper for the display and ribbons for the children to keep. Following the viewing of art, everyone is invited to the gymnasium for a musical performance led by Mrs. Busby. The children have been working hard and are excited to share their artistic gifts with parents and family members. PTO will be on hand for informal discussion. PTO is also looking into the possibility of hosting another pre-pay dinner. We hope to see you at Fine Arts Night!
In an effort to simplify the process of “back to school”, last year PTO provided School Supply Kits for parents to purchase. The kits were a big success. PTO is proud to announce that we will again be ordering School Supply Kits for the upcoming school year. These kits provide all the supplies that your child's teacher has requested they bring to class on the first day of school. Parents simply fill out an order form, turn the form and payment in by the scheduled deadline, and the boxes will be at your child's desk on the first day of school. The PTO members know that back to school shopping can be time consuming and we hope that these kits will be a benefit to you and your child. Look for more details to come home with your child.
Valentine's day is over, but matters of the heart are always important. Taking care of your heart is a key to good health. In an effort to help fight heart disease, the PE department will be hosting “JUMP ROPE FOR HEART”. This event's proceeds will help fight heart disease and will provide an opportunity for you and your child to participate in a heart healthy activity. Look for details to come home with your child in March. Have fun and JUMP!
PTO's biggest celebration of the year is coming soon. The date for SPRING FLING is set for the evening of April 27. This is a huge event with food, games, inflatables, and tons of fun for the entire family. Last year there was a flood of rain and we all still had a great time! Room Moms/Dads should be planning now for their classroom's booth. If you have any ideas, contact your room Mom/Dad today. As with any school event, parent involvement is the key to success so mark your calendar and plan to attend. Your child's classroom needs your help. Tickets will be available to purchase prior to the date of Spring Fling and they will also be available for purchase on Fine Arts Night. This is an event that the children wait all year for. Please plan to help us make the night a huge success!
Is your
child interested in creating things and having fun? Join Mrs. Hickey
for “Camp Invention” this summer at Grantswood Community
School. As part of the invention process, children turn their
imaginations loose on everyday, recyclable materials. It is important
to have a large variety or materials available throughout the week.
If you have any of the following items available at home that you
would be willing to donate, please bring them in to Mrs. Hickey. Here
are some of the items we could use:
cardboard boxes/tubes, egg
cartons, empty dry good boxes, film canisters, foam containers, foam
trays, magazines, milk cartons, milk jugs (rinsed out please),
newspaper, paper bags, plastic containers, lids, plastic grocery
bags, plastic tubing, pebble and rocks.
Camp is June 4th-8th, from
9:00AM-3:30PM. Sign up early for a $19 discount! A few scholarships
will be available based on need. Email jhickey@jefcoed.com for more
information or call 379-3830.
Mrs. Matherly has lots of awesome art projects planned for 2007. In an effort to provide every child with an artistic opportunity, Mrs. Matherly is in need of some simple items.
Skeins of yarn (any color)--this can be new yarn or leftovers that you may not use any more.
Fabric (any solid color)--again this can be new or leftovers from your sewing projects.
The PTO is proud to provide a well deserved Appreciation Banquet to the 5th Graders. The fun will take place on May 21. Mark your calendar and plan to attend this exciting night to celebrate the 5th grader's accomplishments and wish them well as they move on to middle school.
