     Monday, April 12, brought a big surprise to Mrs. Jill Hickey when she was surprised by Mr. Stephen Hauck of Channel 42 News. Mr. Hauck had come to award her a $1,000 classroom grant for the gifted program at Gresham Elementary School.

     Mrs. Hickey applied for this grant in the fall of 2003. Her goal is to bring Accelerated Math to Gresham Elementary to better meet the needs of all of the students. (See below for more information on the Accelerated Math program.)

MORE ABOUT ACCELERATED MATH...
     The Accelerated Math program is one component of the Math Solutions package. It has the ability to generate unlimited practice assignments--tailored to each student's level. It gives detailed reports to identify specific problem areas and quickly address them. It lets the teacher see at a glance how each student is progressing with each math objective. Accelerated Math also gives an overview of how the class is doing at understanding new concepts, helping each student practice the precise skills necessary to move ahead at his own pace.
