Welcome to the Center Point Elementary
School Website. Please allow me to tell you about our school. We are a
close knit community of learners consisting of approximately 720
kindergarten through second grade students and ninety faculty/staff
members. We are in the city of Center Point which is located near the city
of Birmingham, Alabama. We are proud to be part of the Jefferson County
School System.
I am honored to be the principal and
instructional leader of a school supported by a dedicated faculty and
staff. All of our teachers are considered highly qualified under the No
Child Left Behind Act. We have an assistant principal, two counselors, a
behavior interventionist, reading coach, teacher mentor, and two reading
interventionists. We are also supported by excellent exceptional education,
physical education, art, library, and music programs. A technology
specialist provides the support needed to offer high quality experiences for
our students in the area of technology. Our school is also enhanced by the
work of our partnership with Better Basics whose staff and volunteers
provide tutoring for our second grade students and curriculum enrichment for
student in all three grade levels.
Center Point is proud to be an Alabama
Reading Initiative Literacy Demonstration Site. We promote 100% literacy
for all students. Research-based reading programs taught by highly
qualified teachers and interventionists allow Center Point to have some of
the highest reading scores in our district and state. We involve our
parents in this effort through Literacy Night in November, ETA Early
Literacy Backpack Training events throughout the year, and materials for
parent check out such as Dino-Phonics and We Both Read books.
We value the connection we have with
our families and have planned family activities through-out the school
year. You can find a list of these activities on our website. The
activities range from fun events such as our December Parent’s Night Out
(Movie Night for Kids) to educational events such as five sessions on Early
Literacy Training where our parents receive a backpack of materials and some
great ideas for working with their children at home. The Early Literacy
Backpacks have been so successful, one hundred eighty parents at our first
event, we hope to add Math Backpacks very soon.
We also value our connection to the
community. We participate in Strong Schools, Strong Communities. We also
encourage community involvement through our relationship with local churches
who volunteer both time and resources to support our school. We are also
supported by a strong city government committed to contributing to school
improvement.
Through the combined efforts of faculty
members, staff members, parents, students, community leaders, and central
office personnel, Center Point Elementary is reaching excellence in our
mission to educate our children for a lifetime of achievement.
