TEAM CONCEPT
Rudd has been operating on the Team concept since the fall of 1993. Since our mascot is the American Indian, each team is referred to as a tribe. Each grade is divided into two tribes. Sixth graders are either the Chattahoochees or Dakotas. Seventh graders are the Tomahawks and Comanches. Eighth graders are either Mohawks or Creeks. Each tribe has four academic teachers and one special education teacher and in the true fashion of the middle school concept, those students stay with those teachers for all subjects. Classrooms within a tribe are in close proximity of each other. Teachers within the same tribe have the same prep period for planning and parent conferences.   Each locker area has a wall display of its tribe's name and logo painted in the appropriate colors.

Mission

The mission of Rudd Middle School is to develop a knowledgeable student ready to meet the expectations of high school and society.  Our professional faculty and staff provide a challenging, relevant curriculum in a safe, orderly environment.

 LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER

The school's library media center is the hub of the school. The library is networked with the office and circulates materials using Library World software and IBM-compatible computers. Students use OPAC (Online Public Access catalog) stations to do their material searches. There are five Macintosh computers where students can use various CD-ROM titles for research and take Ar quizzes. There are eleven connections to the internet in the media center through our local school network. We also add to this with an Macintosh IBook wireless lab. This makes it possible for several groups to be using the internet at the same time. All of our classrooms  have access to the internet through our local network. The staff includes the media specialist, Mrs. Christina Davis and one aide.  We have student assistants each period.  The Media Specialist also produces our daily news show, which we call Tribe Talk.  The show is run by students who are part of our Broadcast Club.  We have recently added an Academic Computer lab with 25 computers, and an electronic white board.

 ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM

The students at Rudd participate in Reading Renaissance through the Accelerated Reader Program which is a computerized reading management program. Every student in school has a Reading Reanaissance class where they have the time to read and take computer test.  Students first take the S.T.A.R. reading comprehension test to obtain their reading levels. They then read books in their reading zones and take computer test on the books.  The media center sponsors several incentive programs to encourage our students to read. At the end of each semester, we have an Accelerated Reader store in which students can spend the points they earned by taking the computer test. The store is stocked with a variety of prizes ranging in price from 1  point all the way to 200 points. This is very popular. There is also the "100 Point Club". At the end of the school year, every student that has earned at least 100 points will be invited to a party where many prizes will be awarded.
