| MEDIA CENTER McAdory High School is unique in that we have two media centers, one in the middle school for grades 6, 7 and 8, and one in the high school for grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. We provide resources such as books for pleasure reading or research, reference books, periodicals, access to internet including Alabama Virtual Library, audiovisuals and equipment. We provide assistance with S.T.A.R. Reading & Math and Accelerated Reader & Math programs. S.T.A.R. Reading is a computerized quiz that helps determine what grade level the student reads on. Accelerated Reader is a computerized reading test where the student reads a book that we have a test for and earns points based on how well they answer the questions about the book . S.T.A.R. Math helps to determine the grade level a students scores in Math. We have posted our list of AR titles both alphabetically by title and by the grade level. These are the books for which we have tests. The number of points the book is worth is also on the list. With this list you may use books from home or other libraries as well as from your school library media center. These programs when used together can help to increase your child's reading comprehension. If your child is in need of homework help, please utilize the free online Live Homework Help available through the Jefferson County Library Cooperative (www.jclc.org). This resource is available from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm, Sunday through Thursday. The student uses the internet and simply puts their zipcode, grade level and subject in and is then connected to an expert tutor for a one-on-one twenty minute help session. The online tutors are screened and it is very safe. You may access it from this page by clicking on the JCLC icon to the left. You may also access AVL from this page. |
