The
purpose of the McAdory Elementary School Library/Media Center is to
promote reading, assist teachers in teaching students, and to provide
access to information. The library is staffed by Mrs. Corrie Snider.
SOME INFORMATION ABOUT OUR LIBRARY · There are over 11, 000 books in our collection. · Our references section includes not only books and periodicals, but also CD's and Internet Access. · Some of the resources available in our library on CD are: The Animals, My first World Atlas, Dangerous Creatures, World Book, Encarta, Grolier, and Compton's encyclopedias. · Parents may check-out parenting books from the parenting section. The students in grades one through five participate in the Accelerated Reader program. Students in the first grade participate in the program only after recommendation by the teacher and are successful on the S.T.A.R. test. There are 1, 057 titles for our students to choose from.
HOW THE ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM WORKS STEP 1- SELECT A BOOK. Students choose books from the outstanding titles on the Accelerated Reader book list. Each book has a point value based on the reading level of the book. STEP 2- READ THE BOOK. STEP 3- TAKE THE TEST. Students take a computerized test, featuring multiple choice comprehension questions.
GENERAL INFORMATION 1. The student's classroom teacher determines the number of points for each nine-week period and how the points are used to determine a reading grade. 2. Only one accelerated reader may be checked-out at one time. 3. Students are not allowed to take a test on a book that they checked-out that day. They must take the book home for at least one night before taking a test on that book. 4. Read the whole book! 5. Do not wait until the end of the nine week period to try and take all of your test. 6. Tests may be taken in the library or the classroom. 7. With each report card a student reading record is sent home. This shows the book titles and test scores for the on going school year. r.
