BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

Box Tops for Education have helped America's schools earn over $200 million since 1996.  IMS can earn up to $20,000 every year just by collecting box tops from popular products that your family uses every day.  Please visit General Mills’ website at http://www.boxtops4education.com for a list of products.  Students should turn in box tops to the Media Center.  Thanks to everyone who has already sent in box tops.

FEBRUARY “BREAKFAST OVER BOOKS”
JOIN US AS WE TRAVEL…
AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS
ON TUESDAY, MARCH 4TH @ 7:25 A.M.
Grab your book and breakfast and hold on tight. This is sure to be a journey you will not soon forget! Final stop will be Irondale Middle School Media Center.
The Library Media Center presents Breakfast over Books for the 2007-2008 school year. Last year our Media Specialist, Elizabeth Hester, won a grant from the Jefferson County Board that gives the Media Center an opportunity for early morning book talks with students. Here’s how it works:
 Book talks will take place one morning during the month at 7:25 a.m. and end at 8:00 a.m. in the Media Center. It is the student’s responsibility to remember to come.
 Student checks out the selected novel/biography/non-fiction work from the Media Center for a maximum of one week. At that point the student returns the book to the Media Center so that other students will have an opportunity to participate.
 February’s book is Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne.
 Student writes a one-page review and turns it in to Mrs. Hester the day before the book talk.
 Breakfast is served the day of the talk! February’s “Breakfast over Books” meeting is re-scheduled for March 4th at 7:25 a.m. We hope you will encourage your Middle Schooler to participate in this extracurricular activity. Any questions should be directed to Mrs. Hester at ehester@jefcoed.com.

The 23rd Annual Alabama Young Authors’ Conference

The authors’ conference will be held at UAB on April 26th, 2008 from 9:00 until noon.  Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.  The cost is only $4.00 per student.  Interested students should visit www.youngauthors.info for additional information.

Code of Conduct Forms

Please have your child return the Code of Conduct Notice of Receipt Form on page 55 of the Hand Book.  It should be signed by at least one parent. Many teachers are now taking advantage of the Media Center and computer labs in order to enhance the learning experience for all students.  However, the students will not be allowed to work on the computers without returning the form.  Please see pages 38-39 referring to the Technology Acceptable Use Agreement.

LOST AND FOUND

The lost and found area is piling up and we need your help to clean it out.  We have lots of books, back packs, and clothing as well as various other items.  Please encourage your child to stop by the lost and found area to locate any items they may be missing.  We are not able to allow this area to continue growing.  Any unclaimed items will be donated to a deserving organization.
