COUNSELING The IMS Guidance and Counseling Program believes that all students are entitled to receive the benefits of a comprehensive school counseling program. Each student is unique; therefore, programming focuses on the individual needs of each student. It is the goal of the counselor to ensure equity and access to program services so that all students are challenged and supported to achieve their individual highest potential. Although the counselor designs and implements counseling and guidance services, a stronger program is composed of many resources pulled together to address student’s needs. Our counselor will work to design and implement a program that addresses the academic, career, and personal/social development needs of students in grades six through eight. Student needs are met through classroom guidance lessons, individual counseling, consultations with parents and teachers, and on-demand crisis counseling. In addition to the personal commitment and contributions to the counseling program, our counselor will call upon the expertise of community-based agencies/programs, parents, and teachers to assist in reaching all students. A primary focus of the guidance program addresses students’ developmental needs, teaches prevention techniques, and provides intervention skills. The goal of the program is to provide preventive services rather than reactive service.
