Writing

Students will go through the writing process to write:

ü       Narrative Essays with the use of dialouge

ü       Fantasy Essays

Grammar

Students will practice grammar skills that will help them to become better writers.  Students will learn:

ü       Verbs

ü       Pronouns

ü       Adjectives

Spelling

Text: Spelling Connections

Students will have a spelling test every week.  This counts 10% of their language grade.

Math

Text: Mathematics by S. Foresman

 

Topics to cover:

ü       Multiplication and division facts

ü       Multiplying by one- digit numbers

ü       Multiplying by two- digit numbers

ü       Dividing

 

It is imperative that your child learns their multiplication tables.  If they do not know them, they will not succeed in math.  They must know their facts for multiplication and division.  Just ask them to sing the songs to you, especially in the car.  They love them!

Some teachers may use trade books to teach fantasy:

Students will study novels in small groups.  They will read independently and meet and discuss the books with their peers.

 

*Don’t forget they are required to read 4 AR books every 9 weeks.  Two are chosen by the teacher, the other 2 are chosen by the student.
